You are welcome to visit our exhibition at my home, VENUE 44, in this year’s NBA Trail. Sarah Cowper and Laura Cramer are sharing my gallery space this year. We are open for the preview – for looking and buying and sharing a mulled wine, Friday evening 7 to 9pm.
My paintings this year include a mix of West Country land and seascapes, Bristol’s cityscapes and of people enjoying leisure pursuits.
I have been painting as a fulltime artist for 18 years. On leaving school, I went to Art College afterwards working in a variety of jobs involving the arts alongside bringing up our family. I worked on the Bristol Playbus for 5 years developing their community arts, was Assistant Arts Officer in Avon’s youth service and taught in the Arts faculty of The City of Bristol College.
Since working full-time as an artist I have enjoyed working in pastel, watercolour and oil paint. I find sketching very important to my work and my sketchbooks will be on show this year.
I have paintings displayed in ex-advertising space at Temple Meads as part of the Artists on the Platform project and also have a collection of prints on display at Southmead and Cossham Hospitals.
My cards are distributed nationally and globally by card publisher Green Pebble www.greenpebble.co.uk/cath–read-painter as well as my own local cards through Gloucester Road Post Office and local shops.
