Profile Fields

Jenny Urquhart

I grew up in Staffordshire surrounded by British countryside, which nurtured a love for natural history and natural form. My current work is a mixed bag.. of forests, animals and Bristol cityscapes.  My various styles make use of a variety of media including acrylic, ink and collage….and most of my images aim to cheer the soul, or let the viewer escape somewhere else just for a moment. I use anything that comes to hand to apply paint or ink – it may be an old toothbrush or palette knife and quite often my fingers.

My background is a scientific one, partly because art wasn’t offered at my school! With my love of natural history, I did a Biology Degree at Oxford Uni and then taught Biology for ten years in Bristol. I decided to have a change of career in the summer of 2010 and have not looked back. As I don’t have any formal art training and have only painted for the last 7 years, I’m still very much in an experimental phase.
