Venue 24. This year I am showing at 8 Codrington Road BS7 8ET with photographer Dylan Arnold.
I paint in acrylic and watercolour, this year most of the work on show is acrylic. I recently retired from teaching painting to adults, but I still run weekend workshops once a month. These are for people working independently who want a space to practice their art, to work with others, to encounter inspirational challenges and ideas and to bounce ideas off a sympathetic critic. Really good if you are an established artist in need of a bit of refuelling.
Since I retired in May, I have enjoyed more time to paint. I have been exploring abstract expression. I have always been fascinated by the abstract quality of paint even where I am painting identifiable subjects. But now I have taken the plunge! I have worked on a number of ‘content free’ abstracts. Two are 7’x3′ and I have included images to show them to you in situ so you can see how well they work in a domestic space. They make a real statement. It’s been a journey of highs and lows but I have loved every moment – well, nearly! The trail this year is my chance to show new work that is very different and has really challenged me!
